Only large trees with a given minimum diameter are felled. The lumberjack first pushes the chain saw straight into the trunk to see if the tree is healthy then directional felling is applied to minimize the damage on the surrounding forest. Once a section has been harvested it is closed and left to regenerate for the next 25 years.
