Santa Cruz del Islote on the one hand is an island heavily threatened by the abundance of water on the other it has an acute lack of it. The rise of the sea level is a real treat, at high tied many parts of the island get inundated. During storms the relentless pounding of the waves on the fragile walls made of coral stones and sea snails eat away on the houses foundations. Treating collected rainwater produces potable water but only when enough rain falls, in the dry months water needs to be brought in from Cartagena by boat. Water for washing is salty brackish and comes from a well on the neighbouring island of Tintipan.
