Previous to their decision of settling in Colombia the Mennonites have been seeking assurances by Government that they will be allowed to pursue their lifestyle i.e. open their own schools, churches and cemeteries as well as not have to send their children to the compulsory military service which could bring them to the frontlines of the war on drugs.
