Clam digging is traditionally a women’s activity shunned by men mostly dedicated to fishing. Today with the influx into Tumaco of people displaced by Colombia’s war, men are seen more and more clam digging. According to a census in the city of Tumaco there are 3020 people that make a living from it. Here a group of women at the pier early morning waiting for the boat to take them to the mangrove. The rhythm of the clam digging activity is attached to the tied. One week the low tide is in the morning the other week in the afternoon it allows for about 6 hours of digging in the Swamp.
